The Savvy Admin’s Guide to Travel!
Tips for the Tourist in All of Us
Administrators and executive assistants know how to plan their leader’s travel, visas, ground transportation, meals and reservations. They print maps and weather reports, outline agendas and develop contact lists for each destination.
But what happens when an admin travels, something that most admins do infrequently? Traveling and having “not perfect” experiences provides a true flavor of what their leaders go through.
Since you may not be a frequent traveler, here are some tips to help you navigate your travel to become a winning and rewarding experience!
Ground Transportation
Las Vegas is an internationally acclaimed destination city! Known as a “big” little town, you may find it pricey — but no one caters to its visitors and business travelers better than Las Vegas! Sharing a taxi or town car with other attendees from your organization may be a cost effective alternative.
Whether you plan to rent a car, use Red Rock’s complimentary shuttle (available on a first come/first serve basis), hail a taxi or reserve a town car, you’ll find there are many ways to get to Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa from the airport upon your arrival.
Shuttle Service: Red Rock provides a complimentary Shuttle Service; reservations are NOT accepted. Space is limited and requires queuing and waiting. Schedule subject to change.
Route: to/from McCarran International Airport, the Las Vegas Strip at Fashion Show Mall, and Sun City in Summerlin.
AIRPORT to RED ROCK (Picks up from Level 0, down the glass elevators located between north and south baggage claim areas) 6am, 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, 9pm
RED ROCK to AIRPORT (drops off at the departures level) 5am, 7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm
Taxis: At the airport, taxis are readily available on the east side of baggage claim, outside door exits 1-4. Airport personnel are available on the taxi curb to assist passengers. Plan for a fare of approximately $60 each way. Please note: Some taxis will not accept credit card payments. Notify the attendant if you plan to use a credit card for payment before their wheels are in motion.
Continental Breakfast
Each morning you’ll enjoy Office Dynamics International’s a delicious Wellness Breakfast with warm breakfast sandwiches, fruit, hot beverage service (coffee and tea), juice and more! Some travelers with specific tastes or preferences may find that packing their own special snack or flavored tea brings them comfort from home while on the road!
For those who desire a sit-down, hot and big breakfast, there are restaurants in the resort. Be sure to allow enough time so that you do not miss one single minute of the program and speakers!
Ambiance: Hotels, restaurants and spas spend thousands of dollars planning an ambiance that will please you. Most hotel rooms create an ambiance with lighting that is not as bright as you are used to at home. You may find the task light at the bedside table or desk area is necessary in order to enjoy reading in bed or to check emails at the desk. Be flexible and remember to savor the unfamiliar and find the joy and beauty in it. You can also sink into a deliciously deep tub for a long soak; enjoy the marble shower or the marvelous scenery, not to mention the lighted makeup mirror! The Business Center and Conference areas are well lit if you need to do a bit of business in a more lit area.
Expect the unexpected:
When traveling, you must expect the unexpected. Perhaps your flight is delayed or overbooked. Perhaps you miss the shuttle, your baggage is delayed or lost; the hotel room is not quite ready when you arrive. This happens to every traveler at some point. When it happens to you, how will you respond?
- Remain calm!
- Prepare: pack a good book or your MP3 player so you can entertain yourself during down time.
- Consider it a learning experience that will help you know how best to help your executives when someday it happens to them!
- Use your administrative skills and winning attitude to find the joy in that unexpected moment, no matter what.
- Remember: people are human and mistakes sometimes happen.
- Keep a positive outlook throughout the unexpected experience. It feels much better than going through it any other way!
