  • Why connection is your most important career skill

  • How to design a network filled with people who lift you up

  • A simple but powerful pre-conference activity to reignite old connections

Ready to reimagine what networking can be? Let’s dive in.

Why Connection is Your Professional Superpower

Connection Is the #1 Power Skill for Administrative Professionals

You navigate, nurture, and nourish the people ecosystems that help your company thrive.

You who work tirelessly behind the scenes to connect and care for other people.

You forge the relationships that help individuals, teams, and companies innovate, engage, and excel.

You enrich lives with quiet reassurance that comes when you say, “don’t worry I’ve got this.”

To support your growth and success, we are going to help you use your connection power skills to “Put a Different Spin on Networking.”

We’ll leverage the power of connection to take the work out of network. We’ll focus on building networks built on love, curiosity, generosity, and gratitude. You’ll leave feeling energized and connected—with the tools to strengthen relationships with people who will help you innovate, engage, and excel in every area of your life.

How to Take the Work Out of Networking and Build Real Relationships

Are you ready to write a new chapter in your life or career? Then get ready to network… differently.

To focus on the joy of networking, let’s remove the work and focus on the net!

When I first shared my views on networks, I realized networks are safety nets to catch you, trampolines to help you leap to new heights, and teams for you to achieve your dreams. After some personal hard times, I also realized they are like sweaters or tightly knit blankets that envelop you with love and warmth.

When you build your network with love by doing things you love, you benefit from energy, strength, resilience, love, and a sense of true belonging.

I began showing up at the places I love, doing things I love, or spending time curiously questioning the people I love. I’m talking about building a network you LOVE—a circle of connection and care that supports your growth that lights you up from the inside out.

At our session, “Put a Different Spin on Networking,” we’ll throw out outdated notions of transactional networking and focus on how you can create lasting, meaningful relationships grounded in what matters most.

Kimberli Jeter will be speaking at the Conference for Administrative Excellence on the topic, “Put a Different Spin on Networking: Transform the Way You Build Meaningful Connections.”

Why Meaningful Networking Matters More Than Ever

We are experiencing a loneliness epidemic with more than 20% of the US working population experiencing loneliness. We are more digitally connected than ever yet lonelier. The sense of disconnection is only going to grow as AI takes on larger roles within our organizations and lives.

But here’s what I know to be true: you are never truly alone. Life is always a team sport.

In my experience, disconnection often happens when we forget to pause and recognize how deeply connected, we already are—or could be. Your network is your team for life. And it’s time to intentionally build it.

The Networking Wheel: A Framework for Meaningful Connection

The Networking Wheel is rooted in love and powered by three core principles: curiosity, generosity, and gratitude.

Many people resist networking because they think it’s all about events, pitches, and “asks”, but networking is about life and giving generously. When we shift our mindset, our networks are filled with people we love who make us smile. Your network isn’t about work, it is about connecting with and nurturing relationships with people who make you smile, lift you up, and energize your life.

The wheel is put in motion with:

  • Curiosity – Start with genuine interest in others.
  • Generosity – Share your time, knowledge, encouragement, and spirit.
  • Gratitude – Say thank you often—and in many ways.

This tool will help you move from random interactions to a strong, intentional framework that will help you weave a net of support and connection at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

The best part of the wheel is that it is easy and focuses on connection and celebration.

Pre-Conference Activity: Reconnection

Have you ever attended an Office Dynamics Conference before?

If so, use this activity to reconnect with past participants. If you are a new conference attendee, use this to reconnect with past champions and people who’ve made a difference in your life. This is a chance to reconnect with people who lift you up—and rekindle your relationships and create a plan to nurture those relationships with intention.

Here’s a quick preview of what that looks like:

  • Reflect & List: Think of 3–10 people who made you smile. These could be old teammates, former coworkers, community members — anyone who brought light into your life.
  • Recall & Note: What memories do you associate with them? What can you give back—an encouraging word, time, or simply a moment of gratitude?
  • Reconnect & Enjoy: Reach out with intention. A quick note, a voice message, or a walk around the block is all it takes.

When you focus on meaningful reconnection, you’ll be surprised how much energy and strength flows back into your life.

How to Grow a Supportive Network That Helps You Thrive

Administrative professionals are natural connectors. You build bridges, smooth communication across silos, and help leaders succeed. But how often do you intentionally build the kind of network that supports you?

Your network is personal and should be filled with love, joy, and strength. A thriving network is woven throughout your life. It is built over time with every minute, memorable moment, and meaningful conversation shared with someone. It’s also built in the quiet moments of doing life together.

Your net will help you thrive throughout all seasons of your life and the strongest most vibrant ones include your classmates, coworkers, childhood friends, LinkedIn contacts, community partners—anyone who makes you smile and energizes you. When you know how to build your network with intention, you develop the confidence and skills to reach out to anyone. You become more agile and adaptable—able to pivot, grow, learn, and handle any situation or opportunity life gives you.

Your network is not your net worth – it is priceless. It’s your beautiful life, your net woven with love, friendship, and support.
